Vega 91.5fm – The drive home (4 – 6pm)

February 20, 2007

The drive home segment on Vega was simple but satisfying for this relatively new radio station. Hosted by Wilbur Wilde who made his name on ‘Hey, Hey It’s Saturday’ playing the saxophone and also featuring in such bands as OL’55 and ‘Skyhooks’, Wilde was straight forward and uncomplicated for the drive home.

Aimed at the ‘baby boomers’, aged 40 – 60, this three hour segment plays on average ten songs an hour, which is a lot compared to others stations in this timeslot. Instead of mostly talkback Wilde’s style is a mix of quizzers, interviews, some talkback but mostly easy to listen to music. This plan and simple strategy is in an effort to try and compete with other radio stations targeting the same demographic, like 3AW and Radio National which mostly consists of talk back.

Overall while listening to Vega 91.5, it is an easy to see why this 2 year old station is growing in ratings after a rough start but will hopefully continue to develop in popularity.

Review of the Hamish and Andy show (FOX 101.9)

February 13, 2007

This comic and easy to listen to show is perfect for the drive home. Their clever and witty comments appeal to their younger audience. However their failure to refer to the music that they played was their only letdown on the show instead, choosing to concentrate on a skit throughout the show involving the universe and destiny. Taking calls regarding recent events and issues is also a major aspect of the show. Overall it was a friendly and enjoyable two hour show.
